ℹ️ What are Products?
In short: Products are the liquids stored in your customers' tanks on which you install your FoxHardware devices. Before you start with installations, all products that you trade as a company should be set up in the FoxPortal. The reason: during the setup process of FoxHardware on your customers' tanks using our FoxMobile app, the corresponding product in the tank must also be selected.
Each product has a product type, which we have already pre-stored for you in the FoxPortal. Product types are essentially the "parent category" of the product:
Heating oil
Diesel
Lubricants
AdBlue
Waste oil
LPG (use FoxHall or Hall Pro only)
Wood pellets (use FoxRadar+ / Pellet Tracker only)
Used cooking oil / UCO (use FoxRadar Gen 3 only)
Water
Other (individual configuration required)
In addition, any number of qualities (essentially "sub-categories" of products) can be created in the FoxPortal for each product – e.g. "Heating Oil Standard", "Heating Oil Premium". Qualities have no influence on accurate measurements by the FoxHardware, but become extremely useful if you plan to store prices in the FoxPortal so that your customers can place orders directly via the FoxMobile app.
The number of products you can create in the FoxPortal is governed by your contract. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your account manager or the FoxInsights support team.
💡 What is the best way to set up my products?
This depends heavily on which products you want to monitor with your FoxHardware devices:
For heating oil or Diesel, a single product with a few qualities is usually sufficient.
For waste oil, AdBlue, and used cooking oil, a single product per type is usually enough – you can typically manage without qualities here as well.
For lubricants, we recommend creating a separate product for each oil you distribute, as individual product names make your delivery process easier. It is essential to know exactly which lubricant is in which tank.
⚙️ How are Products configured?
First, navigate to "Products" in the left panel of the FoxPortal. Only users with the Administrator role can manage products here – Managers and Contributors have view-only access (find out more about our user roles here).
Here you will find:
An overview of existing products
The option to delete ("Delete product") or edit existing products ("Edit"), or create new ones ("Create product")
Each product has the following components:
Product name
For heating oil, for example, simply "Heating Oil" is sufficient.
For lubricants, we recommend entering the exact product name.
Product code
Your internal code for the product
Makes it easier to locate in your internal systems
Product type
The "parent category" of the product – see above
Product density
Already pre-configured based on the product type
Does not need to be changed.
Crucial for accurate tank level measurements when using our FoxPressure model (Gen3 or Gen4).
Metering interval & time (optional)
Can be defined here at the product level
All devices with this product will measure at the selected intervals and at the selected time
Notify about missed meterings (optional)
Helps you reliably identify FoxHardware devices that can no longer send fill levels to the FoxPortal due to lack of network coverage or depleted batteries.
The number below each notification type indicates the desired number of missed measurements before a notification is triggered.
Fill level calculation & display settings (optional):
Pre-configured based on the product type, but editable.
Setting the maximum fill level (= usable volume) prevents tank overfilling and is relevant for applicable safety regulations.
You can also set how you or the customer see the fill level displayed in relation to this maximum fill level.
Read more about tank volumes here and use the "?" icon to the right of the respective fields for more details.
Qualities
Here you can add any number of qualities per product (e.g. "Premium" or "Standard") via "Add qualities", or edit existing ones.
For each quality, a name and a code can be defined for differentiation purposes.
A quality can be marked as "Default" on the far left. This determines which quality of the product is displayed at the top – and thus most prominently – in the FoxMobile app for your customer when placing an order. Marking your most profitable quality as "Default" can therefore lead to increased margins for your business.
🔗 How are Products and Partner levels related?
Which products should be available for which partner level in the FoxPortal can be defined in the left panel under "Partners" (find configuration details here).
If you have different business units distributing different products, creating a separate partner level for each business unit and assigning the respective product to it can help maintain a clear overview.
If a product is not assigned to a specific partner level, it cannot be selected during the setup of a FoxHardware device. This way, you can also prevent employees or end customers (depending on who is mounting the FoxHardware on the tank) from selecting the wrong product during setup in FoxMobile.
